How Many Years of Life Does a Healthy Diet Add?

A large, recent study has granted us succinct insights regarding how many years of life can be added, by switching to a healthier diet. A diet low in sugar-sweetened beverages, refined grains, red meat and processed meats but high in fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and legumes was considered healthy. Increased whole grains and legumes, with decreased intake of red or processed meats showed the strongest connection to extended life.

This study proclaimed that by switching to a devoted healthy diet at age 20, one could increase their lifespan for around a decade! Switching to a healthier diet at age 60, would still likely increase the lifespan by around 8 years!

This study was done by analyzing large amounts of data from many different studies, providing moderate evidence.
