Benicar(Olmesartan) is an angiotension receptor blocker. It decreases the body’s production of angiotension 2, a hormone that can lead to increases in blood pressure. It also causes the adrenal gland to secrete aldosterone. It is commonly used to treat hypertension.
Take this medication by mouth with a glass of water. This medication can be taken with or without food. Be sure to take it regularly exactly as directed.
Do not operate heavy machinery, drive a car, or engage in other activity that requires fine motor skills until you are sure of how this medication affects you.
Check your blood pressure and meet with your doctor regularly while on this medication.
Notify your doctor if you become pregnant while using this medication.
Avoid alcohol consumption.
Stand and sit slowly when you first start taking this medication to avoid dizziness.
Kidney disease, liver disease, history of allergic reactions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you are on a unique diet(with low sodium intake).
Confusion, dizziness, decrease in passage of urine, diarrhea, tightening of throat of difficulty breathing, changes in heartbeat or chest pain, rashes, swelling of the tongue, face, lips, hands or feet, vomiting, weight loss.
Cough, libido changes, headache, sinus congestion, nausea, muscle pain or cramps.
20-40 mg by mouth once daily.
