Nasonex(mometasone)


Uses

 

Nasonex(mometasone) is an intranasal corticosteroid used to treat conditions such as allergies and asthma. It helps to decrease inflammation, pressure and other immune responses.

 

 

How to Use

 

This medicine is used by inhalation through the nose.

 

Do not share this medicine with others.

 

Take it exactly as directed, do not take it more than directed.

 

Check with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure the you are using this medicine correctly.

 

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is already almost time for your next dose, take only that next dose. Do not double up on any dose.

 

 

Nasonex Nasal Spray

 

- Shake the bottle for a few seconds and remove cap.

 

- To prime the device, hold the device away from you and pump it a few times until you see that the mist is coming out to ensure it is working properly. Do this before the first use or if you haven’t used it for 7 days.

 

-Gently blow your nose.

 

-Shake the device for a few seconds and remove the cap.

 

-Keep your head upright, insert the tip of the device into one nostril and press the other nostril closed. Breathe in gently and quickly as you press down on the applicator for a spray. If you are directed to instill 2 sprays in each nostril, you can do the two sprays right after one another without removing the nozzle from your nose. Repeat this procedure in the other nostril.

 

-Do not blow your nose for a few minutes after using.

 

-If the spray gets on your skin, eyes, or mouth, rinse with water.

 

-Wipe the nozzle with a tissue and replace the cap.

 

-To clean the device, remove the cap, remove the nozzle, run under cold water until the water runs through, tap to remove water and allow to dry, then replace cap and nozzle.

 

 

Important Information

 

Visit your doctor regularly while taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

 

Tell your doctor if you are going to be around anyone with chickenpox, measles, or other viral or bacterial infections. Tell your doctor if you develop blisters, sores or other symptoms of infection. This medicine can increase your risk of getting an infection.

 

 

Be sure that your prescribing doctor is aware if you have any of the the following conditions before taking this medication

 

Infections such as herpes, tuberculosis, fungal or bacterial infections, recent surgery, injury of the nose of sinuses, currently taking corticosteroids by mouth, history of allergic reactions, pregnancy, breastfeeding, trying to become pregnant.

 

 

Side effects that should be immediately reported to your healthcare provider

 

Allergic reactions(hives, rashes, itching, swelling of the face or mouth), trouble breathing, vision changes, infections, nausea, vomiting, unusually weak or tired, white patches or sores in the nose or mouth.

 

 

Other Side Effects

 

Irritation in the nose or throat, cough, headache, muscle pain, painful menstrual periods, nosebleeds, changes in sense of smell or taste.

 

 

Adult Doses

 

Seasonal and Perennial Allergic Rhinitis and Allergic Rhinitis Prophylaxis

 

2 sprays in each nostril once daily. The total daily dose should equal 200 mcg.

 

 

Asthma Maintenance Therapy/Prophylaxis

 

Aerosol Inhaler

 

Previous therapy of medium dose inhaled corticosteroids: 2 inhalations (100mcg each) by mouth twice daily(morning and evening).

 

Previous therapy of high dose inhaled corticosteroids: 2 inhalations (200mcg each) by mouth twice daily(morning and evening).

 

 

Oral Powder Inhaler

 

Previous therapy of inhaled bronchodilators or corticosteroids: 220 mcg once daily in the evening as the starting dose.

 

Previous therapy of oral corticosteroids: 440 mcg twice daily as a starting dose.
